Hi all,
Just wondered with all the threads on here about getting wet in formalwear etc wether any of you ladies out there have ever done anything 'messy' in your wedding dresses after you have been married.
I personally would love to buy a house with my new bride and to celebrate it being our new life together we would paint it upstairs and down while dressed in our 'new life' attire which would be our wedding attire, wife in a lovely white satin gown and me in tails gradually getting messy as we painted our new home. Bit of a romantic idea I think though too.
Has anyone got messy in their proper wedding dress just for the fun of it????.
E.g, cover yourself and your dress in chocolate, had a messy bath in yoghurt or something.
It does'nt have to be a wedding dress as all formalwear is beautiful. It would be great if anyone has any stories to tell of their own experiences after their wedddings. Shame that beautiful dresses get locked in closets when you could have such fun with them.
Hope this new thread gets some replies!!!!
All the best for Xmas everyone!!!!!

This coming from a guy who hides behind a cheesy cartoon character in a failed movie... Why don't you grab the vasoline and the kleenex and go back to your "fortress of solitude"? Maybe you'll work out a little of that agression.

I got gunged for charity in an evening dress. It was a lovely long blue dress, and I had several litres of "real" gunge poured all over me. I loved it!
Felt very naughty getting messy in something that is normally kept so perfect.

Cheers Sal for reply.
Unlike hellboys reply.
My post was only fun and getting messy in posh clothes IS fun as Sal has said too. It just feels naughty and silly, getting such a perfect garments totally messy.

hi Sal,
I also got gunged for a fund raising event with 'real' gunge, and lots of it!
I wore my wedding dress and I also loved it. Anyone who gets the chance should try it!
Just wish I could be gunged again!
Carol.

Hi Carol, sounds like a nice gunging scene ! What kind/style was your dress ? What is gunge anyhow ? Did your dress get ruined or does that kind of stuff wash out afterwards ? The only such fund raising stuff that I've ever done is that I've sat on dunk tanks a couple of times.

Hi Lynn,
My dress is a long sleeved, traditional style, very full skirt with train. The gunge was just like coloured slime (very slimy!) and was poured over my head, yellow first then red. The gunge washed out in my washing machine and my dress is fine. I'd like to go on a dunk tank with my wedding dress on, what did you wear?

Carol, I guess your dress got quite heavy then, full of such stuff ? Did you wear veil, heels and all or just the dress ? I'm surprised that it washed out that easy; I thought such stuff would be tough. Did you know beforehand that it would be ok or did you take a risk ? I guess if it's a fancy/expensive wedding dress one would guess it would be a bit fragile, maybe not for water but it you get colored stuff on it.
Yes wearing your wedding dress on a dunk tank would look funny and probably get many to want to dunk you ! WHen I've been on dunk tanks it's been for church fundraisers and most of the time just in casual stuff, like jeans + T or so, but one time I did it in my church clothes, nice dress, heels and all. That was fun ! But the dunk tank worked fine, and people made an extra effort to get me in since I was dressed up. I guess that would have been ever more so if I'd been in formal attire.I've been in a pool in my prom dresses (complete with heels, gloves, purse and all) but not on a dunk tank.
I'm pretty sure that if your wedding dress survived getting gunge on it it will survive the dunk tank, unless it gets caught on something and ripped or something like that. Is the dress decorated (like sequins, embroideries, lace, beads or so) ? I guess you were the only one getting gunged all dressed up like that ?

Hi Lynn, Yep my dress was really heavy, it seemed to soak up the gunge! I wore a veil, tiara, heels, stockings, basque, garter, the works! The dress wasn't expensive and it is decorated with sequins and lace. I didn't wear my hooped petticoat though as I couldn't fit in the "gunge tank" with it on! Maybe I could wear it on a dunk tank though? I'd like to be thrown in a pool with my dress on.
I was the only one getting gunged. I was given a target donations total to meet and when people donated enough, my fate was sealed!
Do you have any plans for more dunk tanks? Maybe you should try being gunged?

Carol, yes I can well guess it would get heavy! Did your shoes survive the gunging too ? Maybe they were not the typical wedding shoes, like silk or satin pumps or so, as I guess that it would be hard to get them clean afterwards. Myself I've never got my good clothes messy, just wet. But that was fun, I might well do it again if a chance comes up. Both times were in a pool, in my prom dresses, complete with absolutetely everything, also heels and purse. So you think it would be fun to go into a pool in your wedding gown and all too ? Go for a real swim ?
Yes if you go into a dunk tank or into a pool I think you can wear your hoop petticoat too, sure why not ? I'm sure the dress looks much better with it and for swimming it's probably easier with than without as the hoop will keep your skirt from getting into your legs. On a dunk tank I think it could help to prevent your dress from flying up. The only risk I could see is that if your dress is very wide it could maybe get caught on something and rip.
Yeah I could see me doing a dunk tank again, but it's maybe less likely - the times I did it was for the HS club of our church and now that I'm too old for that I'm not sure who would possibly ask me to sit on a dunk tank again. Gunge would be even less likely, they've never done that. All in all, I think it's more likely that I'll go into the pool again some day but you never know.
I guess you put on a good show that time! People must have thought you were really wild, getting all messed up like that in your wedding gown! But I see that a couple of people here have been thinking about painting their house with the brides in their gownsm so why not ? I don't think they'd get a very well painted house...but I'm sure they'd have fun doing it!

Yep, my shoes survived Lynn, they were just cheap white court shoes (with high heels). I would love to have the chance to go for a swim in my dress and all the accessories, but I can't really see it happening, (shame!!).
If I got asked to go on a dunk tank in my wedding dress I would jump at the chance, and wouldn't worry about the dress! Again I would wear the works, underwear, heels, veil, etc. and my hoop!
I must have put on a good show as my total got doubled a couple of times, such was the desire to see me in the gunge tank! Although I just sat and said very little in a chair under a banner at the stall. It was mostly men who gave dontions, but a surprising amount of women came over to talk to me, ask what I was wearing (underwear, etc), if I volunteered, was I nervous, etc. After I was gunged, I sat in the tank for a while and mostly women came over to have a closer look and "touch" the gunge and asked what it was like, etc. Which was interesting.
Is the water in the dunk tanks you have been in, cold or do they warm it up? The gunge I got poured over me was warm (which maybe made me enjoy it even more!) as it comes in powder form and they have to make it with warm water.

Carol, well at least the other women didn't think that you were crazy doing this then ? I guess many women would be hesistant to do something like that in their wedding gowns - you know some they want to preserve the gowns, put them in vacuum sealed boxes and stuff like that. That wouldn't be me though - if I'm getting married some day I might well do something fun and crazy instead, even if I get a fancy or expensive dress!
Well as for warm or cold water in the dunk tanks, the times I've done it they've not been heated but it's always been in the summer so the water has been quite nice anyhow. They usually fill it the day before and then let it stand there and get warm in the sun.
I'm into sailing so I get wet all the time but that's only in casual stuff. But jumping in after the proms was different, more exciting when I was all dressed up like that. It's fun to forget the practical side all together and just go in in everything, fancy gown, heels, purse (with all my stuff inside!), gloves and all.
Well if you want to go swimming in your wedding gown or other formal stuff, just head for a pool or the beach :) People might look a bit surprised if you wade in like that, but so what ?

Hi,
My dress is made form dupion with sequins and lace. The gunge was quite watery, I expected it to be thicker but it was really slimy and ran everywhere so I got covered 99% I would say. I could feel it running down between my boobs and filling up in my panties! I think it was 2 tubs of 15 litres each, first yellow and then red. My dress soaked up a lot and was really heavy!
Hi Lynn,
I'll have to think of somehow to end up in a pool in my wedding dress! Just can't think how. Maybe I could go to a beach and 'wade' in? I would like to get gunged again though! Also I'll have to look around for charity dunk tanks and volunteer myself!

Carol, yes sure you can wade in at the beach if you want to go for a swim in your wedding dress but can't find a pool for it. And I'm sure you'll be a perfect target if you want to go for a dunk tank thing. You mean a regular dunk tank with water, or do you mean getting dunked with gunge again ?

Hi Lynn,
Sorry I've been on holiday and been a bit busy to reply. I was meaning a regular dunk tank with water - but the chances of me going on one is very slim as I haven't even seen one before!
Can I ask you, will my dress 'float up' in the water in a dunk tank? - Should I wear my layered net underskirt or hoop if I went on one? (chance would be a fine thing!)

Carol, well what's hard to say as it would depend on how the dress is made - I've never tried getting dunked in a formal gown so I don't know. But I think it's better if you wear your underskirt and your hoop, then that will take the first impact so to say and it's less likely that your dress will come up. When I was in the pool those times my dress sort of floated around me but it never came up over my head or anything. I guess on most dunk tanks you sit with your feet just above the water before you go in so I don't think there would be any problem. Just check first that your dress isn't caught on something or it could rip when you go in ! Is it a really big wide dress ? If it is you really have to watch all parts of it! Water should be preey safe for a wedding dress - no dyes that can run ! And if your dress survived the gunge with no damage it should survive just about anything I'd guess.
